Following an award-winning season in London’s West End, Kneehigh Theatre’s acclaimed production of Noël Coward’s Brief Encounter arrives at The Lowry. The production has been nominated for four prestigious Olivier Awards, including the coveted awards for Best Entertainment and Best Director.

Emma Rice, Artistic Director of Kneehigh, has taken one of the most beloved films of all time, the stage play on which it was based and the music and songs of Noel Coward to create this brand new Brief Encounter.

The lives and loves of three couples are played out in the famous station tea room using the words and songs of Noël Coward to create a breathtaking, delightfully funny and tear-inducing show. The company of ten actor musicians switch seamlessly between theatre and film to recreate the world of Milford Junction in ways that have never been seen before.

Cornwall-based Kneehigh Theatre are renowned for their distinctive physical, musical and visually arresting style. Emma Rice’s work for Kneehigh includes The Red Shoes, for which she won the 2002 TMA Theatre Award for Best Director, The Bacchae which won the 2005 TMA Theatre Award for Best Production and A Matter of Life and Death at the National Theatre.
