HMS Pinafore

Small-scale opera company adapt Gilbert & Sullivan classic…

Opera Della Luna
HMS Pinafore

The Lowry, Mon 23 – Sat 28 March 2009
Press Night: Mon 23 March, 8pm

Following their wonderful production of The Mikado in January 2008, the innovative Opera della Luna return to The Lowry with their acclaimed production of HMS Pinafore. This fabulous production of the Gilbert and Sullivan classic takes up residence in Salford from Mon 23 March following two sell-out seasons at London’s prestigious Covent Garden Festival.

In true Opera della Luna style, eight multi-talented singers/actors become chorus and principles in a brilliantly fast and hilarious production of this famous comic opera. Packed to the brim with toe-tapping tunes, HMS Pinafore has been transferred to a Dickensian setting, a period even earlier than its first performance of 1878.

Since its inception in 1994, Opera della Luna have established themselves as a highly original ensemble of extremely versatile singers and comedians. Led by Artistic Director Jeff Clarke, the name is taken from Haydn’s operatic setting of Goldoni’s farce Il Mondo della Luna.

‘An evening to remember: full invention and fun!’ Kentish Gazette
