Ordsall and Langworthy residents aged from eight to eighty have teamed up with Walkabout, The Lowry’s long-term community outreach programme, to produce A Postcard from Salford at The Lowry on Sun 26 April.
The showcase brings together outrageous fashion creations, stunning visuals, and street and classical dance performances set to an eclectic mix of populist music and thought-provoking films as local people reflect on the changes in Ordsall and Langworthy over the years.
Local residents have taken part in workshops alongside professional artists to develop their creative skills in dance, film, fashion and photography, culminating in the on-stage production, A Postcard from Salford.
Graeme Urlwin, Head of The Lowry on Walkabout, explained
“Walkabout has never seen such a mix of ages all performing together at one event. It’s been great to see different generations working and rehearsing together and all focused upon the April show.”
The Lowry on Walkabout aims to use creative activity to develop opportunities for participation and social engagement among Salford’s communities. Projects are driven by the participants and their ideas, reacting to issues they have identified within their own communities. Walkabout encourages participants to work together to devise, plan and deliver creative projects which, in turn, challenge issues embedded within their communities and contribute to improving life for residents.
Walkabout in Ordsall and Langworthy receives support from a range of agencies in the area and is financed by The Lowry, Salford Primary Care Trust and Salford City Council.
Free tickets need to be reserved and are available from The Lowry Box Office on 0870 111 2000.
