The award-winning all-male theatre ensemble Propeller return to The Lowry with an innovative take on two of Shakespeare’s greatest masterpieces.
The Merchant of Venice is a new staging that excites the deepest of arguments and reveals the virtue in vice and vice in virtue. A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a revival of their production which played to packed houses in 2003.
Propeller was formed over 10 years ago by director Edward Hall at The Watermill Theatre in Newbury. Celebrated for illuminating Shakespeare’s meaning, the company’s work brings out the nuances of Shakespeare’s tales and incorporates live music on stage. They have toured all over the world from Huddersfield to Bangladesh; playing national theatres, ancient amphitheatres, farmyards and globe theatres. They have been shot at, challenged and applauded by different audiences wherever they have gone.
The cast is: Bob Barrett, Kelsey Brookfield, Babou Ceesay, Richard Clothier, Richard Dempsey, John Dougall, Richard Frame, Emmanuel Idowu, Jonathan Livingston, Chris Myles, Thomas Padden, Sam Swainsbury, Jack Tarlton and Jon Trenchard.
Edward Hall and Propeller have won numerous awards and nominations on both sides of the Atlantic including two TMA Awards for Best Production and one for Best Director, a nomination for Best Director at the Olivier Awards and Drama Desk Awards and Jeff Awards in the US.
