World renowned dancer Wayne Sleep and ‘I’d Do Anything’ runner-up Samantha Barks will be right at home in the flamboyant surroundings of the Birdcage, on Fri 22 May. In advance of their performances in Cabaret at The Lowry from Mon 22 June, they will be surrounded by showgirls and photographed with the Birdcage’s own Liza Minnelli.
Since its Broadway première in 1966 and the famous movie version with Liza Minnelli, Cabaret has won a staggering number of stage and screen awards including 8 Oscars, 7 BAFTAs and 13 Tonys. This sensational musical turns Weimar Berlin of 1931 into a sassy, sizzling haven of decadence with legendary singer Sally Bowles and the infamous Kit Kat Klub at it’s heart.
Renowned dancer and former jungle inhabitant Wayne Sleep reprises the role of Emcee. Samantha Barks, the hugely popular runner-up from the hit BBC series, has been cast in the prestigious role of Sally Bowles. Samantha, who received rave reviews from judges including Andrew Lloyd Webber and Denise Van Outen, spoke of her delight at being cast in the role, "I'm absolutely thrilled to get this part. Cabaret is one of my favourite shows ever and Sally Bowles is such a great part to play. Having met Liza Minnelli during the filming of I'd Do Anything I'm beside myself with excitement."
