The Lowry are thrilled to announce their No Boundaries season showcasing new, innovative and exhilarating theatre brought by some of the north’s leading talent. Beyond the Front Line, a large-scale, outdoor theatre co-production between The Lowry and one of the most groundbreaking theatre companies in the UK, Slung Low, premières this Autumn. Slung Low also debut their spine-tingling horror installation, They Only Come at Night: Resurrection, in association with The Lowry. Fireflies, an enthralling new play written by one of the North West's leading playwrights, Kevin Fegan, is inspired by local places, people and events. Starring Suranne Jones and Brian McCardie, this impressive multi-media event is produced by The Lowry and directed by theatre/TV director Noreen Kershaw.

Robert Robson, The Lowry’s Artistic Director said, “All three productions will be truly memorable, providing the audience with an experience they can’t stop talking about. In the run-up to The Lowry’s 10th birthday year, these unique projects illustrate our role in presenting imaginative theatre.”

They Only Come at Night: Resurrection is an electrifying horror installation event by Slung Low. The audience become part of the pulse-quickening action when they are invited to a VIP launch of a new graphic novel based on imaginary events that took place one night. The novel tells of unknown creatures that came out of the shadows to stalk and terrorize, but rumours suggest that maybe those events weren't so imaginary after all.

A new collaboration between Slung Low, The Lowry, Imperial War Museum North and The University of Salford, Beyond the Front Line is a compelling drama that hurtles the audience deep into the heart of war zone action. Exploring the friction and ties between the civilian population and the Armed Forces that serve us, the production uses front line knowledge from soldiers to create a total sensory experience for the audience, who embark on a journey into the unknown. Beyond The Front Line is generously funded by Arts Council England Grants for the Arts.

Starring Oldham actress Suranne Jones (best known for her role in Coronation Street and her acclaimed performance in ITV’s Unforgiven) and Brian McCardie (Rob Roy and The Damned United), Fireflies tells the stories of Leigh and Nelson, two lonely hearts coming face to face with the reality of their lives. Told with a fierce frankness, this darkly comic and moving script brilliantly conveys their resilience in the face of hardship. This extraordinary multi-media production combines text with film and computer graphics to create visually stunning storytelling and a uniquely theatrical experience.
