Prestigious prize for dancers from The Lowry

Dancers have chance to win £5000 prize…

Young dancers from the North West are being given the chance to win a life-changing £5,000 bursary thanks to The Lowry and the Eric Simm Award. Set up by Salford’s famous sons, Albert Finney and Harold Riley, the award from the Salford Arts and Sports Trust will go to dance talent from the region who apply before Fri 28 August 2009.

Applications will be considered from dance artists who were born in Salford or its neighbouring boroughs of Manchester, Trafford, Bolton or Bury. They should be about to graduate or have recently graduated from a recognised dance institution and would like the opportunity of further training. The bursary can be used in a number of ways, either to fund study both nationally and internationally or to attend a specialised dance event, festival or workshop providing the applicant with valuable artistic development.

The award was set up in 1978 in memory of Eric Simm, ex Salford Grammar School Headmaster, who gained a reputation for encouraging young people in the dramatic and visual arts. The Eric Simm Award aims to give something back to the community and to help advance the education of young people in the arts, literature, media and sports within Salford and its neighborhood. Previous recipients have gone on to pursue further study and training to develop their careers in the visual and performing arts.

To find out more about this unique opportunity and to request an application form, interested dancers should contact Natalie Davies, Youth Dance England Strategic Manager for the Northwest on natalie.davies@thelowry.com, or Jonathan Poole, Centre for Advanced Training Manager at The Lowry on jonathan.poole@thelowry.com.

The Lowry Centre Trust is a not-for-profit charitable organisation and registered charity (no. 1053962). All income supports our world-class Theatres and Galleries programme, the care and display of the LS Lowry Collection and our life-changing Community and Education work.
