Press night events in September

The Lowry will play host to a galaxy of stars this September beginning with Matt Lucas, who appears in the funny and moving Prick up your Ears. Shobna Gulati reprises the role she created for TV in the first stage adaptation of Victoria Wood’s dinnerladies. Finally, beloved stage and TV actress Penelope Keith stars in Entertaining Angels prior to its West End debut. The Lowry also welcome the first of two large-scale promenade productions by Slung Low, They Only Come at Night, plus the return of Ireland’s Druid with Enda Walsh’s The Walworth Farce.

Thu 27 Aug – F***ing Men – 8pm, Quays
This insightful comedy drama follows ten male couples and strangers as they search for love, sex and intimacy in modern day America.

Tue 1 Sept – Prick Up Your Ears – 8pm, Quays
Starring Matt Lucas and Chris New, this dark, funny and moving play imagines what really happened between Joe Orton and his lover Kenneth Halliwell.

Thu 3 Sept - Slung Low in association with The Lowry, They Only Come at Night: Resurrection – 8.30pm, Studio
Be part of the pulse-quickening action as a graphic novelist comes face to face with the vampiric creatures from his latest book.

Mon 7 Sept – dinnerladies – 7.30pm, Lyric
Victoria Wood’s delectable BBC sitcom is served up as a play, starring Andrew Dunn (Tony) and Shobna Gulati (Anita) from the original TV cast.

Tue 15 Sept - Druid Ireland, The Walworth Farce - 8pm, Quays

Druid returns to The Lowry (The Cripple of Inishmaan, 2008) with this ferociously entertaining and achingly tender farce about family history and violence.

Tue 22 Sept - Sherman Cymru, Deep Cut – 8pm, Quays
By Philip Ralph
Taken from original source material, this multi-award-winning play is a compelling account of how one young soldier’s family fought to uncover the truth about her death.

Wed 23 Sept - Rambert Dance Company, Comedy of Change Tour 2009 - 7.30pm, Lyric
Featuring live music by the Rambert Orchestra
Celebrating 10 years at The Lowry with a diverse and thrilling programme, Rambert’s 22 dancers reveal their versatility in works inspired by Charles Darwin and samba.

Mon 28 Sept - Entertaining Angels - 7.30pm, Lyric

Penelope Keith stars at The Lowry for the first time in this sharply comic show about a clergy widow who finds her new-found freedom suddenly threatened.

Wed 30 Sept - Company Chameleon, Kith/Kin – 7.45pm, Quays
This powerful and poignant mixed bill from male duo Company Chameleon includes Stride, the culmination of a dance project with DiGM.
