Sherman Cymru’s hit production Deep Cut about the infamous Deepcut Army Barracks visits The Lowry from Tue 22 September. Receiving critical acclaim and winning numerous awards at 2008’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Deep Cut is directed by Mick Gordon, Artistic Director of On Theatre and previous Associate Director of the National Theatre.

Private Cheryl James, from Llangollen, was one of four young soldiers who died from gunshot wounds in unexplained circumstances between 1995 and 2002 at Deepcut Barracks. Written by Philip Ralph, Deep Cut uses original source material and powerful first hand testimonies of those closest to her to create a bold and compelling account of Cheryl’s parents’ search for answers.

Although The Blake Review, an independent review of the deaths, concluded that Cheryl probably committed suicide, the parents of the four soldiers, including Cheryl’s parents Des and Doreen James, have now re-launched their campaign for a full independent public inquiry.

Winner of a Scotsman Fringe Fringe First, Herald Angel and the Amnesty Freedom of Expression Award, Deep Cut was one of the must see shows of last year’s Edinburgh Festival. The play then transferred to London’s Tricycle Theatre earlier this year.

“Extraordinary, complex and moving…this remarkable show is essential viewing.” The Guardian

“One leaves the theatre both moved and stirred to anger.” The Daily Telegraph
