The challenge celebrates the collaboration between Cheshire-based porridge manufacturers, Mornflake and The Lowry’s staging of the TV classic, Porridge.

Picture opportunities include:
· Crowd with porridge bowls in the opulent theatre
· Giant 200 litre pan (75cm diameter x 43cm height) on stove with The Lowry catering team and Mornflake

The record was previously set in 2007 at Edinburgh’s Farmers' Market when around 81kg (178lb) of oats breakfast was brought to the boil. The joint attempt at the world record by The Lowry and Mornflake will be made by chefs at The Lowry and then transported to the theatre for volunteers to eat.

Richard Jones, Marketing Manager for Mornflake said, “We’re really proud to be supporting such an exciting show at one of the region’s leading arts venues and we hope to encourage people to eat porridge as a healthy start to a daily diet. We're very hopeful that we’ll create a brand new world record with the ‘Largest Bowl of Porridge (weight)’ and if we do, it will be the first world record for both Mornflake and The Lowry.”

Written especially for the stage by the original creators, Dick Clement and Ian Le Frenais, one of Britain’s best-loved comedies, Porridge, will begin its 4 week stretch in the Quays theatre at The Lowry from Tue 22 December. Following two previous Christmas seasons at The Lowry with stage adaptations of Dad’s Army and ‘Allo ‘Allo, Calibre Productions return with this unarguable all-time classic. Originally aired on BBC1 between 1974 and 1977, the show promises to rekindle the fond memories of HMP Slade and its notorious inmates, allowing audiences once again to hear the cherished catchphrase “Naff off!”.

Mornflake, who are proudly sponsoring this great British classic, aim to raise awareness of porridge as one of the healthiest porridge options. A low GI food, oats and oatbran can help lower cholesterol as well as limit appetite until lunchtime. Mornflake are famous for their range of oat based cereals, in particular for the several varieties of delicious creamy Mornflake oats for the perfect porridge. The Mornflake range of healthy oat cereals also include oatbran, extra crispy mueslis and oatbran flakes all made from the finest quality British oats by the UK’s oldest milling experts, based in Crewe since 1675 and still milling oats in Cheshire 14 generations on.
