North West stars win a chance at the big time

Three budding young actresses have won the opportunity to appear in the spectacular stage musical White Christmas at The Lowry this Christmas. The girls will take turns to play the part of Susan and star alongside Aled Jones, Suzanne Shaw and Adam Cooper.

The three local stars are: 11-year-old Kendal Boardman from Gorton who has performed in local shows since the age of 4, 12-year-old Stockport-born Anna Bray who trod the boards at The Lowry earlier this year in Annie, and Emily Fitton aged 11 from Rochdale who has sung and danced in a local pantomime and numerous school productions.

At the audition the girls were required to sing a song, read from a script and demonstrate they could move to music. They will rehearse for the part and perform during the run at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth and The Lowry, Salford.

The judges, David Morgan, the show’s director and choreographer; Helen Rymer, assistant choreographer; and David Bell, children’s administrator, were looking for girls who could sing loud, in tune and with emotion and have the ability to move well.

David Morgan commented,

“We are thrilled with the girls we have for White Christmas. It was a great audition day in Salford but these girls had that special X factor that the character Susan needs in that she has to sing, dance and act!”

With an ensemble of more than thirty and a dynamic 17-piece orchestra, White Christmas is a multi-million pound production brimming with classic Irving Berlin hits like Blue Skies, How Deep is the Ocean, Happy Holiday, Sisters and, of course, the unforgettable title song White Christmas. It tells the story of two buddies putting on a show in a magical Vermont inn, and finding their perfect mates in the process.
