Press night events in November and December 2009

The winter months are star-studded at The Lowry. November kicks off with TV favourite Felicity Kendal in Mrs Warren’s Profession. Sally Lindsay, Lisa Riley and Sarah Jayne Dunn head up the ultimate girls' night out in The Vagina Monologues. Aled Jones, Suzanne Shaw and Adam Cooper arrive as the spectacular stage musical White Christmas makes its North West debut.

Mon 2 Nov - Mrs Warren’s Profession – 7.30pm, Lyric

What is Mrs Warren’s profession? And what will her daughter do when she finds out? Felicity Kendal stars in Shaw’s provocative play about constrained morals.

Tue 3 Nov - Bonachela Dance Company,The Land of Yes and The Land of No – 8pm, Quays
As soon as we leave our homes, we are told what to do and what not to do. Rafael Bonachela explores how these literal commands affect us emotionally.

Thu 5 Nov - The Vagina Monologues – 8pm, Quays
This hilariously witty and moving collection of tales gives voice to a chorus of lusty, outrageous, poignant, brave and thoroughly human stories - the ultimate girls’ night out!

Tue 10 Nov - Opera North, Cosi fan Tutte – 7pm, Lyric
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Two men hedge their bets in this timeless tale of trust and deception, scored to some of Mozart’s most beautiful music.
Sung in English.

Wed 11 Nov- Opera North, Werther – 7.30pm. Lyric
Jules Massenet
New Production
Soaring melodies, rich textures and a formidable cast transform Goethe’s novel of tragically unrequited love into an intensely touching operatic masterpiece. Sung in French with English titles.

Thu 12 Nov - Opera North, The Adventures of Mr Broucek – 7.30, Lyric
Leoš Janácek
This vibrantly original opera follows Mr Broucek as he travels to worlds beyond his imagination while Janácek’s glorious music paints a vivid picture.
Sung in English.

Sat 21 Nov - Insane in the Brain – 7.30pm Lyric
A classic story is injected with a dose of Hip Hop as breakdance becomes a way of expressing freedom within the confines of a psychiatric hospital.

Tue 24 Nov - Royal Shakespeare Company, Days of Significance – 8pm, Quays
By Roy Williams
As troops withdraw from Iraq, the RSC return with a blisteringly topical play examining the aftermath of war, where conflicts rage beyond the battleground.

Tue 1 Dec - White Christmas – 7.30pm, Lyric
The spectacular seasonal musical makes its North West debut, starring Aled Jones, Suzanne Shaw, Roy Dotrice OBE, and a sackful of unforgettable songs.

Tue 8 Dec- Ockham’s Razor, The Mill – 8pm, Quays
Aerial theatre company Ockham’s Razor return with a wooden wheel suspended six metres in the air, powered by performers whose changing fates hang in the balance.

Tue 22 Dec - Porridge – 8pm, Quays
Penned by the original writers of the much-loved BBC comedy series, and starring all your favourite inmates, this promises to be a sure-fire holiday hit.

Sun 27 Dec - Bink and the Hairy Fairy – 2pm, studio
A fabulous family musical about a wicked sorcerer, a good elf and a hairy fairy – with lots of opportunities to hiss, boo and sing along!
