JUS’ LIKE THAT! A Night Out With Tommy Cooper is a hilarious evening of non-stop entertainment featuring all the best gags and magic tricks, made famous by Tommy Cooper. It’s 25 years since the comedian died on stage at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End. Now, Clive Mantle, star of Casualty, Holby City and The Vicar of Dibley, re-creates the iconic entertainer at The Lowry, from Monday 22 February.

I got a new car for the wife yesterday……..not a bad swap.

Clive Mantle was born to play Tommy Cooper as he too is 6’4” and has size 13 feet!  He conjures up Tommy’s gangling bulk with all the familiar trademarks – the fez, the laugh, the jokes and the bad magic.

I slept like a log last night.  I woke up in the fireplace.

A devout Cooper fan, Mantle has been working with Geoffrey Durham (aka The Great Soprendo) on perfecting all of Tommy’s magic tricks.  Before your very eyes you will see pigeons appear, bottles disappear and hear all the jokes that Tommy made famous.

A woman went to the doctor and said, “I’ve got a bad back”.  The doctor said, “It’s old age.”

She said, “I want a second opinion.”  He said, “You’re ugly as well.”

Written by John Fisher – who has compiled the new, acclaimed Tommy Cooper Joke Book – and directed by Patrick Ryecart, Mantle joins the team who first put the show on in London’s West End in 2003.  Just like Tommy himself, John Fisher and Geoffrey Durham are both Gold Star Members of The Magic Circle.

I went in a pub and had a ploughman’s lunch – he wasn’t happy!

This is a really great night out in the theatre, whether you are a Cooper officianado or not.  It is an evening of good old-fashioned variety that celebrates the life of the legendary comedian – Tommy Cooper.

I’m on a whiskey diet – I’ve lost three days already.
