Stop Messing About - The Kenneth Williams Extravaganza
Wed 17 – Sat 20 March, 2010
Press Night – Wed 17 March, 8pm
Satire, Silliness and acutely observed impersonations come together in West End smash hit Stop Messing About – The Kenneth Williams Extravaganza, which appears at The Lowry between Wed 17 and Sat 20 March.
This hilarious show, from the team that brought you the hugely successful Round The Horne….Revisited (The Lowry, 2005), is a guaranteed laugh-a-minute evening, as Kenneth Williams’ waspish wit takes centre stage this spring.
Stop Messing About… is set during a live recording, packed with outrageously funny sketches, parodies and songs, which reunited Kenneth Williams with his Carry On co-star Joan Sims and Hugh Paddick transporting you back to a time when comedy meant being funny, with scarcely a swear word in sight.
This wonderfully entertaining show comes from the pens of comedy writing legends Johnnie Mortimer and Brian Cooke who were responsible for some of Britain’s best-loved sitcoms including; Man About The House, Robin’s Nest, Father Dear Father and George and Mildred.
"Infectious... a glorious cocktail... the jokes flow at a breathless pace"

The Sunday Times
"Dazzling inventive humour"
Sunday Telegraph
Kenneth Williams was born in 1926 in working class London, where he and his older sister Pat were raised by their parents Louisa and Charlie, who ran a hairdressing shop. At the age of 14, Williams began training as a lithographic draftsman and was later apprenticed to a cartographer.
After release from military service in 1948, Williams worked in repertory theatre around Britain, eventually ending up in London theatre. He became a household name in Britain through his numerous performances in radio and television, but is still best-known for his 26 appearances in the Carry On comedy franchise.
