Press night events April 2010
Ten years since The Lowry opened its doors on the 28th April 2000, the arts centre continues to engage and delight audiences with a varied selection of exciting shows. Highlights of The Lowry’s 10th birthday month include the funny yet touching Spike Milligan’s Adolf Hitler: My Part in His Downfall, Northern Broadsides’ intense story of passion, hatred and deadly rage Medea and a rare UK appearance from one of the world’s most prestigious dance companies Ballet Nacional de Cuba.
Tue 6 April - Spike Milligan’s Adolf Hitler: My Part in His Downfall – 8pm, Quays
Spike Milligan’s celebrated war memoirs follow super-witty Gunner Milligan and his jazz quartet, adrift on the tide of great historic events.
Tue 6 April - The Gruffalo – 4pm, Lyric
Join Mouse on an adventurous journey in this musical adaptation of the award-winning picture book, returning after a sell-out success in the West End.
Tue 13 April – Medea – 8pm, Quays
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned... Northern Broadsides ignite Tom Paulin’s gripping new version of the play about one woman’s horrific vengeance. Please note that Kulvinder Ghir is no longer in this production.
Wed 14 April - Ballet Nacional de Cuba - Magia de la Danza – 7.30pm, Lyric
The company famed for invigorating Western classics with Cuban passion performs a mixed bill featuring extracts from seven of the company's most famous ballets including Coppelia, Nutcracker and Swan Lake. Please note that Ballet Nacional de Cuba will be performing to a pre-recorded orchestral soundtrack.
Fri 16 Ballet Nacional de Cuba – Swan Lake – 7.30pm, Lyric
A dramatic and stylish version of the full length ballet, featuring world-class performances from the full company of dancers. Please note that Ballet Nacional de Cuba will be performing to a pre-recorded orchestral soundtrack.
Tue 27 April - Candoco Dance Company - Triple Bill – 8pm, Quays
Renowned for inspiring their audiences, Candoco present three new works from international choreographers Wendy Houstoun, Emanuel Gat and Manchester-born Sarah Michelson.
Wed 28 - Extra-Ordinary – 7.45pm, Studio
Acclaimed actor and dancer David Toole partners his biggest fan, Lucy Hind, in this funny, moving and satirical dance duet.
