Blaze
Mixing nighclub vibes with West End production values and the energy of a pop concert, Blaze - the streetdance sensation, starts its UK tour on Fri 1 October at The Lowry.
Directed by the multi award-winning Anthony Van Laast (Mamma Mia!, Sister Act), Blaze features 16 of the best streetdancers in the world with nine different nationalities. They include BBC1’s So You Think You Can Dance finalists Tommy Franzen and Lizzie Gough together with Lil Steph, UK B-boy Champion Mouse and BC-one finalists Neguin and Pelezinho.
The choreography comes straight from five of the brightest and hottest names in streetdance including Lyle Beniga, Mike Song, Chris Baldock, Ryan Chappell and Kenny Wormald. There are stunning sets by Es Devlin (designer for Kanye West and Lady GaGa), lighting by Patrick Woodroffe and Adam Bassett (Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson -This is It) and amazing visuals by MSA Visuals and Flat-E.
Local streetdance groups will showcase their work in the foyer before the show starts. Youngsters can try their feet at drop-in workshops at 3.45pm and 6.30pm. The Lowry has teamed up with the Eurocultured Street Festival to run a breakdance competition on Sat 2 October at 4.30. It’s now set to be an international success. After the UK tour the show will continue its International tour throughout 2011, visiting the Netherlands, South Africa, Belgium, Germany, Australia, Spain and before returning to London’s West End. It will then open the new season 2011/12 at the prestigious Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.
