Two sides of Salford at The Lowry this September

The Studio at The Lowry plays host to two productions with particularly strong Salford connections this September – Fiddy West Productions’ Territory (Thu 16 – Sat 18 September) and Hunt & Laurence’s The Key To The Garden (Fri 24 September).

Writen by award winning writer, Reuben Johnson, Territory observes a group of boys spending an evening in the local woods. When one of the boys brings his older, successful brother to join them the status within the group is challenged. With varied characters and a dramatic narrative, Territory is a touching and humourous reminder of what it is to be young.

Set in Little Hulton, Salford, Territory has enjoyed wide success in various venues across London and Scotland. Fiddy West Productions are now extremely excited to finally bring the show to the city where it is set and to finish the tour in Reuben's hometown of Manchester.

The Key To The Garden is a funny, moving and uplifting one woman play that tells the story of the remarkable Frances Hodgson Burnett, who rose from humble poverty in Salford to become a close friend of the President of the USA and a pioneering author of classic books such as The Secret Garden, A Little Princess and Little Lord Fauntleroy.

Frances’ family owned an upmarket furnishings emporium in King Street, Salford. She was born on Cheetham Hill Road and spent much of her childhood in Islington Square, Salford. Frances always wrote wrote fondly of her home town, of playing out by gaslight, of picking sooty daisies in the park and of getting the factory kids to teach her how to speak ‘real Lancashire’.

This witty and moving performance sees stage and screen actress Rachel Laurence bring to life the extraordinary Frances Hodgson Burnett, the bestselling author who took a lifetime to find peace in her own secret garden.
