DIGIT – Celebrating Diversity In A Digital Age
The Lowry’s exciting digital arts festival DIGIT is delighted to announce the first three acts confirmed for this feast of groundbreaking music, dance, performance and visual art. Taking place on the Fri 10, Sat 11 and Sun 12 June, 2011, DIGIT will welcome the very best local and national digital artists to The Lowry for three days of performance, workshops and more.
The first act to be confirmed is Demdike Stare, the new project from Miles Whittaker and Sean Canty. Miles is best known as Modern Love’s DJ MLZ. Sean Canty is the man behind Haxan events and a member of the hugely respected Finders Keepers crew. Their collaborative project tracks the sonic ley lines of cult soundtracks, arabesque dubs and psychotomimetic ephemera with a Lancastrian twist.
Equally interesting is virtual reality duo Me And The Machine, made up of Sam Pearson (UK) and Clara García Fraile (Spain). Me And The Machine’s works combine groundbreaking uses of audiovisual technology and interactive media with choreographed performance, evocative text and distinctive imagery, inviting audiences to engage performatively in unique immersive sensorial experiences.
The last artist to be confirmed at this stage is Salford writer and actor Joe O’Byrne, who is creating a specially-commissioned piece combining film and live theatre. Joe is best known for his Paradise Heights series of plays and films, The Bench, Rank, I'm Frank Morgan and Lookin' For Lucky.
Further acts, including three exciting headliners, will be announced shortly.
There’s still time to get involved as a project volunteer and shape this exciting festival in a variety of roles including Stage Manager, Festival Coordinator, Media Liaison Officer, Print Development Officer, Web Development Officer and more. The closing date for applications is Friday 11th Feb. Anyone interested in being a part of this exciting festival should go to www.vinspired.com to apply or speak to project manager Jonathan Lewis on digitinfo@thelowry.com or 0161 876 2085.
