DREAMBOATS AND PETTICOATS
Fri 30 September at 12pm @ The Lowry Waterways
Cast of ‘Dreamboats and Petticoats’ celebrate as local businessman re-names his own ‘Dreamboat’ in honour of musical.
Dear Picture desk,
We would like to invite you to attend a photo call for Dreamboats and Petticoats on Fri 30th September at 12pm, for the re-naming of local businessman Eamonn Gall’s very own ‘Dreamboat’.
Oldham man Eamonn, has operated his unique family-run business for over 25 years, with his canal boats cruising locals and tourists around the Greater Manchester waterways. A Fifties and Sixties music lover himself, Eamonn contacted The Lowry to ask about re-naming one of his canal barges ‘Dreamboats and Petticoats’ to honour the show visiting The Lowry from 31st October.
The Gall family company ‘City Centre Cruisers’ sails two vessels around the magnificent waterways of Manchester and Salford, operating trips all year round for groups and individuals. It’s a unique venue for a special occasion whilst discovering the world famous historic Manchester Ship Canal and Bridgewater Canal which this year celebrates its 250th Anniversary.
Barge owner Eamonn Gall said “I’m a huge lover of 50’s and 60’s music and have the Dreamboats and Petticoats CD’s. I got very excited to hear that the show was visiting The Lowry next month so contacted the venue to see how we can work together – I’m really looking forward to the show and even thinking of running some Dreamboats and Petticoats tours while the show is running”.
Dreamboats and Petticoats cast, leading ladies Samantha Dorrance, who plays Laura and Anna Campkin, who plays Donna will board the boat in full costume next to the Lowry to raise a glass with Eamonn to mark the re-naming of his boat.
Dreamboats and Petticoats, the smash hit musical is inspired by the million+ selling albums and will stop off at The Lowry from Mon 31 October for one week only. The dazzling success of the first four albums in the ‘Dreamboats and Petticoats’ series sent the message loud and clear. With over 2 million copies sold and several weeks at the Number One spot in the compilation charts, the Great British public were saying that they didn’t just want to listen to pure nostalgia: they’d love to see it as well. Thus ‘Dreamboats’ was born as a musical, and so was an evening of pure hedonistic affection for a more innocent era, when love was young and so was rock ‘n’ roll. Featuring songs from Roy Orbison, The Shadows, Eddie Cochran, Billy Fury, Chuck Berry and many more, including Let’s Dance, To Know Him Is To Love Him, Shaking All Over, Bobby’s Girl, Little Town Flirt, Only Sixteen, Sleepwalk, Runaround Sue, Happy Birthday Sweet 16, What A Wonderful World, Let’s Twist Again, Let It Be Me and many more hits from music’s golden era!
More information on City Centre Cruisers can be found on www.citycentrecruisers.co.uk
The Lowry’s own Quays Bar has also taken the theme/renaming idea on board and is being turned into a Dreamboats Diner for the week of the show with a 1950’s rock and roll inspired menu on offer.
