Hi there,
Hope you’re well today?
Just a quick reminder that you are invited to Imperial War Museum North tomorrow, Friday 4 November for a screening of the museum’s brand new, specially commissioned ‘Remembrance’ Big Picture Show and a photo / interview opportunity with the cast of the Tony Award Winning play Journey’s End, which comes to The Lowry for the period of Remembrance from Tue 8 - Sat 12 November 2011. Please arrive at 10.45pm for an 11am start.
Imperial War Museum North’s ‘Remembrance’ Big Picture Show is a unique film, made up of sound, moving images and photographs, which are projected onto the walls of the Main Exhibition Space, to create a fully immersive, 360-degree experience. Specially commissioned by IWM North and never before seen by the public, the show focuses on the different elements of Remembrance, starting with its origins following the First World War through to a more recent loss in Iraq in 2005.
Following the end of the screening, the cast of Journey’s End will be available in costume (with a number of war veterans? In the museum’s First World War Gallery?) for a photo opportunity in which they will explore the gallery as though they had come straight out of the First World War The cast will also be available for one on one or group interviews at this time.
________________
R.C. Sherriff’s JOURNEY’S END comes to The Lowry especially for the remembrance period, fresh from its celebrated West End run at the Duke of York’s Theatre. The Olivier-nominated, Tony and Drama Desk award winning production, directed by David Grindley is set in the British trenches at St Quentin in 1918, in the days leading up to Operation Michael on March 21st, the last great German Offensive of the First World War.. A company of officers prepare for a daring raid across No Man’s Land to gather intelligence. Based on the author’s own experience of the Front and life in the trenches, it celebrates humour and courage in the face of certain tragedy, and remains an important reminder of the horrors of war and the real, unromanticised heroes who fought it.
Remembrance is the perfect time to visit Imperial War Museum North which is just a short walk from The Lowry. For further information please see www.iwm.org.uk/north or ring 0161 836 4000
