CAST OF JOURNEY’S END COMMEMORATE REMEMBRANCE DAY
AT MANCHESTER WAR MEMORIAL

The cast of award winning World War I play Journey’s End, yesterday, paid their respects to their real life counterparts and to all of the brave soldiers who have given their lives in conflicts, with a visit to Manchester War Memorial.
The cast, who are currently appearing at The Lowry especially for the period of Remembrance, took part in a two minute silence, before taking the opportunity to view the wreaths which adorn the memorial, and to pay their own private respects to those who have fallen in war.
The cast, who were very moved by the experience, said ‘This Remembrance Day is more important than ever before for us. Doing the play has deepened our respect for those soldiers who have served and for those who are currently serving. It was an honour to be able to pay our respects to these brave individuals at Manchester War Memorial ’
This award winning production of RC Sheriff’s Journey’s End is set in the British trenches at St Quentin in 1918, in the days leading up to Operation Michael on March 21st, the last great German Offensive of the First World War, a day that saw the deaths of 38,000 men. A company of officers prepare for a daring raid across No Man’s Land to gather intelligence. Based on the author’s own experience of the Front and life in the trenches, it celebrates humour and courage in the face of certain tragedy, and remains an important reminder of the horrors of war and the real, unromanticised heroes who fought it.
The cast is Graham Butler, Tim Chipping, Andy Daniel, Simon Dutton, Daniel Hanna, Simon Harrison, Nigel Hastings, Mike Hayley, Nick Hendrix, Christian Patterson and Tony Turner.
The production runs until Saturday 12 November. A free post show talk will take place on Remembrance Day, 11th November.
