Feb Highlight Image

Welcome to the February Press Pack, here are some highlights from The Lowry’s excellent theatre and gallery programme this month. Please scroll down for Press Night Reminders and a list of all The Lowry’s theatre shows and exhibitions in February.

Powerful, strong and formidable figures dominate The Lowry’s theatre programme this February; and a host of both established and budding local performers take to the stage.

All-male Shakespeare company Propeller, with new performer Karl Davies who was born in Stockport and has lived in Salford, present the tale of the greatest warrior in English folklore Henry V (Wed 8 – Sat 11 February). The Chinese State Circus (Fri 17 – Sun 19 February) returns featuring the first UK appearance of the formidable Shaolin Warrior known only as “The One”.

In The Library Theatre’s adaptation of D.H Lawrence’s 1912 play The Daughter in Law (Thu 23 February – Sat 10 March) socially ambitious Minnie sparks a drama of class-conflict and sexual tension. Female strength of character is explored in Opera North’s winter season through the stories of Butterfly (Madama Butterfly, Tue 28 Feb & Fri 2 March), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare, Thu 1 March) and Norma (Norma, Wed 29 Feb & Sat 3 March). Some of the North West’s best female opera talent comes home as the up-and-coming young mezzo soprano Kathryn Rudge, originally from Liverpool, gives her first professional opera performance in the North West in Giulio Cesare.

The performers in smash-hit musical The King and I (Tue 21 – Sat 25 February) are more Salford than Siam, as 32 local young people are set to play The King’s many children.

Elektro Kif (Wed 15 & Thu 16 February),a dazzling urban dance from the streets of Paris, marks the UK debut of Spanish dancer, choreographer and filmmaker Blanca Li who invites dancers across the UK to create and film a one minute dance video in front of an iconic landmark in their city. The winning solo dancer or group will perform their dance on stage as the opening act for Elektro Kif. The Lowry’s commitment to dance is highlighted this month with an exhibition of over 50 original prints by outstanding dance photographer Chris Nash showing in the galleries.
