The Lowry On Walkabout
Walkabout is a 3 year project bringing The Lowry into the different communities of Salford to create projects and activities made by and relevant to Salford people. The Lowry will work in partnership with Salford City Council and other key local agencies, local people and community groups to enhance community life and explore local priorities.
Walkabout is about meeting local people and groups and finding out about their interests passions, concerns and dreams. Walkabout artists employed by The Lowry will visit community groups and provide people with the tools to realise their ideas and to create projects and events with a difference. We hope that these projects and events will attract more participants and work towards addressing some of the key issues important to the lives of those involved.
14 months in Little Hulton completed in March 2008 and with a large scale bonfire sculpture and film event in Peel Park, Little Hulton. There were a variety of projects leading up to this event including a youth music project, children’s lantern making, local residents helping to build the bonfire structure and each estate building their own symbol to burn on the night.
Take a look at photographs from the event here.
Walkabout in Ordsall and Eccles Walkabout started working in Ordsall and Langworthy during November 2007 and is working with residents in Langworthy to look at creative ways of addressing anti-social behaviour.
Ordsall and Langworthy on The Move!
