OUTLANDS is a gripping triple bill of contemporary dance that showcases and celebrates female choreographers commissioned as part of 2Faced Dance Company’s The BENCH INDIA and UK programme. This unique one-off programme of work features Hemabharathy Palani, Ronita Mookerji and Emma-Jayne Park. These extraordinary female choreographers present an intimate evening of work to mark the deep cultural ties between India and the UK as part of UK-India Year of Culture 2017.
Hemabharathy Palani, presents Yashti. Evolved from the story of the Tulasi plant - a story of conflict, confrontation, jealousy, and growth. Through these stories of women, Hema performs a kinaesthetic soliloquy whilst the rhythmic structures of classical Indian music drive the choreography, echoing Hema's search for constant self-alteration.
Ronita Mookerji, presents WHO. Who am I? What defines me? Where do I belong? I feel this extreme sense of being stuck or confined or imprisoned. What is my identity? WHO, explores what we have lost and what we come back to, the home. The place where we belong.
Emma Jayne Park presents Here Before Now for Cultured Mongrel Dance Theatre. We’ve all ‘been here before’. With hindsight it is easy to see how history has repeated itself but what happens when life throws you a curve ball of meteoric proportion? Exploring grief, change and our relationship with home, Here Before Now combines movement and text with live music created from everyday objects by composer Nik Paget-Thomlinson. The performance invites the audience to come with us on a journey of remembering, evaluating where we are in life and exploring why that even matters.
