The Lowry Schools Appeal

Get involved

This year, we are running the ‘The Lowry School Appeal’ between 26 June- 28 July. We want to raise £5,000 which will be matched by a further £5,000 by Alison and Noel Copley, founders of the Copley Prize.

Help us to raise £5,000

We want to support 10 schools in Salford that have had limited or no previous engagement with the arts. Our artists will deliver visual arts, drama and mindfulness workshops in school and at The Lowry for 600 pupils, leave the school with a hamper of art materials and provide resource packs so teachers can roll out similar workshops. They will also enjoy a show at The Lowry for free. Activity will begin September 2023.

Thanks to the support of Alison and Noel Copley, we are about to complete the first year of the new Copley Children’s Creative Arts Programme. Launched in 2022, the scheme is the exciting next phase of our primary schools outreach programme, delivering a package of workshops, materials and visits to help primary school children to develop their imagination, spark creativity and bring curriculum subjects to life whilst supporting their wellbeing. We are delighted with the impact of the first year of this new, enhanced offer on children and schools across the city.

All participating pupils can also submit an entry to The Copley Prize, our prestigious art competition for children aged 4- 11, with the winner seeing their work professionally exhibited for a year in The Lowry Galleries next to LS Lowry’s most celebrated works of art.

My Year 2 children were very enthusiastic about all of the workshops and excited to be visiting The Lowry […] During the mindfulness workshop, one SEND pupil sat perfectly quietly drawing on the long piece of paper, getting up to have a look at the water; a group of children were talking to each other about what they were doing and were trying to create a joint piece of work. It was lovely to see confidence in some of the children in the drama workshop; there was awe and wonder in all of the workshops with objects and ideas children hadn’t experienced before. The children loved that there were different parts to the programme and really felt a sense of belonging, as if the Lowry was their place.” Marlborough Road Academy, Copley Children’s Creative Arts Programme 23 School
