The Copley Prize

Inspire your children with LS Lowry
An opportunity for 4-11 year olds to see their work mounted next to that of LS Lowry!

Children aged 4-11 can now enter a prestigious art competition that could see their work exhibited next to LS Lowry’s most celebrated works of art.

Judged by LS Lowry curator Claire Stewart, the annual winner of this prestigious prize each year receives:
• their art work framed professionally and hung in The Lowry Galleries alongside the work of LS Lowry for a full year
• a tour of The Lowry Galleries for their family
• a choice between a family ticket for a theatre show at The Lowry or a free art workshop for their school.

A runner up is selected each term (3 times a year) and entered into the annual competition, with their work featured in our online gallery.

The Copley Prize at The Lowry is kindly supported by Alison and Noel Copley.

The Lowry Centre Trust is a not-for-profit charitable organization and registered charity (no.1053962). All income supports our world-class Theatres and Galleries programme, the care and display of the LS Lowry Collection and our life-changing Learning and Engagement work.

Amelia Griffiths, aged 5, from Horwich in Bolton was judged the winner, with her work entitled ‘Still Going To The Match’ – inspired LS Lowry’s famous interpretation of Bolton Wanderers old ground, Burnden Park.

Commenting on her success, Amelia said: “It feels amazing to win. I feel proud of myself. My favourite hobbies are painting and dancing. Thank you for picking my picture".

And when asked how she would feel is someone paid £1.9m for one of her paintings one day, she said: “'I'd share it with my family and save some for me to buy a kinder egg and with the change I'd buy new paints and paint brushes and paper and new dance stuff.”

Claire Stewart, added: “Going to the Match is one of the most popular works in the collection – and the fact Amelia has captured this work from her own bedroom window is not dissimilar to Lowry’s own approach, which was to paint what he found in front of him.”

Noel and Alison Copley said: “We loved Amelia’s painting from the moment we saw it and were amazed when we found out she was only five years old. It’s a lovely painting and a worthy winner.”

Amelia’s painting will hang in the permanent LS Lowry exhibition at The Lowry for one year.
