Secondary Schools

HE and FE Workshops (KS3 and KS4)

We offer a range of creative workshops exploring the LS Lowry Collection, special   exhibitions and our Theatres programme, through both visual and performing arts. Our workshops are led by professional artists and practitioners and take place at The Lowry, or  if you prefer, we can come to your school.

Opera North's The Magic Flute

Schools’ Matinee

Weds 6 Mar, 2.00pm 
Performances suitable for KS2-4 

Enter an enchanted world and join Prince Tamino on his quest to rescue Pamina, daughter of the Queen of the Night. A magical quest packed with adventure, comedy and drama, set to Mozart’s miraculous music. 

This specially-devised opera is a wonderful introduction for school children, and teachers alike. Sung in English, this shortened version of The Magic Flute will be accompanied with a free teachers’ cross curricular resource pack (available from January 2019).

LS Lowry Workshops

We offer a year-round programme of performing and visual arts workshops based on the LS Lowry collection. 

  • Half day: £120 (£96 Salford schools) 
  • Full day: £240 (£192 Salford schools. 
  • Artist in school: £300 per day 
  • For up to 35 pupils 10am–12pm or 1pm–3pm

In School Workshops

Key Stages 3 & 4

We will send a professional artist to your school (distance dependent and negotiable) to help you explore the work of LS Lowry or a topic of your choice. 
These are full day workshops from 10am-3pm (timings can be flexible). 

 Cost £300 including materials | For up to 35 pupils | 10am-3pm

Visual Art Workshops | LS Lowry

Key Stages 3 & 4

We have three strands to our Visual Arts Workshops:

  • LS Lowry Industrial Scenes
  • LS Lowry Landscapes
  • LS Lowry portraits

Investigate, explore and learn with out artists about LS Lowry's style of painting whilst creating your own artwork from one of the above themes. 

Half day: £120 (£96 Salford schools) | Full day: £240 (£192 Salford schools) | Artist in school: £300 per day.
For up to 35 pupils 10am–12pm or 1pm–3pm

Pick & Mix Visual Art

If you’re looking for a workshop linked to our performances or another area of the curriculum we can create something bespoke for your group. 

Whether that be set design or photography skills a member of our team of highly experienced artists will then design and deliver a bespoke workshop for you, either at The Lowry or in your school.

Half day: £150  | Full day: £300  | Artist in school: £300 per day

Pick & Mix

A bespoke workshop for your class

If you’re looking for a workshop linked to our performances or another area of the curriculum all you need to do is tell us: 

  • The art form you would like to use - this could be Dance, Drama or Visual Art 
  • The topic area 
  • and the curriculum area you'd like to explore. 

A member of our team of highly experienced artists will then design and deliver a bespoke workshop for you, either at The Lowry or in your school. 

Half day: £150 | Full day: £300 | Artist in school: £300 per day

3D Modelling

Key Stages 3 & 4

Be inspired by the LS Lowry collection or choose to explore a subject area of your choice and spend a day developing modelling techniques to produce a finished piece of artwork. 

For up to 35 pupils | Full day workshop: 10am-3pm | Cost: £360

Dance Workshops

Key Stages 3 & 4

LS Lowry Dance

Develop dance techniques and ideas for choreography in a practical session led by a professional dancer. Spend time in the galleries exploring the paintings and drawings of LS Lowry and use these as a starting point for ideas about character, movement and narrative.

Half day: £120 (£96 Salford schools) | Full day: £240 (£192 Salford schools | Artist in school: £300 per day

Pick and Mix Dance

If you are interested in an introduction to Contemporary Dance or a workshop around Street dance our team of highly skilled artists will create a bespoke workshop for your class. Choose any style of dance or any topic area and we will create something tailor made for your group.

 

Cost Half day: £150 | Full day: £300 | For up to 35 pupils| 10am–12pm or 1pm–3pm | Full day workshops 10am–3pm.

Drama Workshops

Key Stages 3 & 4

LS Lowry Drama


Use the paintings of Lowry as inspiration to investigate a variety of drama techniques. Work with our artists through a variety of warm up games before spending time in the galleries looking at some of Lowry’s key paintings. Engage with the images by exploring narrative and character and then work in our studio space to develop living pictures by bringing the people from the paintings to life.

Pick and Mix Drama

Our team of highly skilled artists will create a bespoke workshop for your class. Whether you want to explore Shakespeare or Shrek our team will create a workshop to meet your needs.

 

Cost Half day: £150 | Full day: £300 | For up to 35 pupils | 10am–12pm or 1pm–3pm | Full day workshops 10am–3pm.

Macbeth CPD Workshop

Tuesday 25 September 2018, 4.30pm-6.30pm

Drawing on rehearsal room processes, this workshop will introduce practical strategies for exploring the play with your students. You will be given an insight into the director’s vision and interpretation of the play to find out how the production was staged. Exercises that have been used in previous Macbeth CPD workshops have included:  

• Shakespeare-specific warm ups 
• Exploring the world of the play  
• How to use iambic pentameter and punctuation   

Aimed at: English and Drama teachers who are teaching the play at GCSE and who have booked to see the production.

Macbeth Student Conference

Friday 5 October, 1.30pm - 5.30pm | Key Stages 4- 5

This is an event for students featuring talks and on-stage masterclasses with key members of the company, creative team and academic speakers.  Sessions will include an exploration of Shakespeare’s original performance conditions and the process of bringing Rufus Norris’ production to the stage.
