Adopt A Lowry
Adopt a Lowry is the ideal way to commemorate a special person or occasion, or to demonstrate your appreciation for one of the most influential and admired artists of our time.
By adopting a Lowry, you will also be making a valuable contribution to the ongoing conservation of this very special collection, helping us continue to share and explore Lowry’s work with the next generation of gallery-goers through our learning and engagement programmes.“
Valerie Hamill's story
"I discovered that the gallery had an Adopt a Lowry scheme to help raise funds to preserve, restore and display the Lowry collection. This is how I came to adopt the Wreck at South Shields 1961 which brought it out from the stores and back on display. I had a very interesting escorted tour of the Lowry archives and stores.
The Curator was extremely interested in my reasons for selecting this work and in February an unveiling of the work was held at the Gallery, a copy of my photo displayed on the wall next to it explaining my sponsorship.”
I’ve been an admirer of Lowry’s work all my life – and I remember going to see the wreck of the Adelfotis as a child. To think he was there somewhere at the same time, sketching away, is exciting – and when I heard there was a chance to help preserve his work by adopting this drawing - I didn’t hesitate. It’s a beautiful piece and to have the chance to see it up close has been a real treat.
