CHILDREN’S CASTING CALL ANNOUNCED FOR TINY TIM IN THE OLD VIC’S PRODUCTION OF A CHRISTMAS CAROL AT LOWRY THIS CHRISTMAS
As previously announced, The Old Vic’s production of Matthew Warchus’ much-loved, Tony Award-winning A Christmas Carol, adapted for the stage by Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials, Harry Potter and The Cursed Child), will play at Lowry, Salford from 11 Dec 2026 –10 Jan 2027.
Having announced that it will also return to The Old Vic for its tenth consecutive year, this production has now played to almost one million people in London, America and Australia, and across the globe as part of OLD VIC: IN CAMERA in 2020. This will be the first time since its world premiere in 2017 that the show will be seen in another UK city, offering the chance for even more people to experience this magical show firsthand.
There is an exciting opportunity for young performers from the Salford and Greater Manchester areas to be a part of this groundbreaking production, as the creative and casting teams are now in search of four extraordinary young performers to share the central role of Tiny Tim.
Traditionally, in this production of A Christmas Carol, the role of Tiny Tim is played by a disabled child. Only disabled children will be considered. The character of Tiny Tim is 9 years old, and we are looking for children 9 years or above of any gender. Ideally the children should live within one hour of the Lowry Theatre, Salford. Previous acting experience is welcomed but not necessary. Any access requirements will be discussed at the point of submission.
The Old Vic’s Artistic Director and Director of A Christmas Carol, Matthew Warchus, said: ‘When Jack Thorne handed me the commissioned script for A Christmas Carol he did so with just one stipulation; that the role of Tiny Tim should always be given to a child with a disability. This aspect of inclusion is one very close to Jack's heart and he has become one of the UK's most respected voices on the subject of disability in drama. Needless to say, I was more than happy to agree to this condition and, over the last ten years, in replica productions across the globe, the role has provided a wonderful opportunity for young people with a range of disabilities, and with an interest in theatre, to join in and become a part of this celebrated production.’

Rehearsals commence November 2nd in London, and will continue in Salford in early December.
