At Lowry we believe that our diverse programme of performing arts should be accessible for all, and we aim to ensure that everyone’s visit is as comfortable and suitable to their needs as possible.
From captioned theatre performances and British Sign Language interpretation to audio described shows, relaxed or sensory adapted performances for audiences with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities, to dementia friendly performances, our commitment to a broad programme of accessible performances helps ensure more people can experience live theatre with confidence. Touch Tours
For visually impaired visitors to get familiarised with the space, costumes and props before the show.
BSL Supported
Get a clear view of an interpreter who will share the show in British Sign Language.
Captioned
View speech and sounds as text on a scrolling screen at the side of the stage.
Relaxed
A more laidback environment for those who struggle with darkness, loud noises or confined spaces.
Dementia-Friendly
We have trained staff on hand to support Lowry visitors living with dementia to enjoy their experience.
Sensory Adapted
A Sensory Adapted Performance is an extension of a Relaxed Performance. In addition to relaxed adjustments to the show and building facilities to support the access needs of those with sensory processing differences, neurological conditions and neurodivergent audiences; sensory adaptations specifically create multi-sensory and intimate theatre experiences for audiences with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and their companions.
