Home Sweet Home – Exploring local stories

This artist led workshop invites pupils across all age groups to explore their local area through observation, imagination, and hands on art-making, helping them express a sense of place while developing confidence, creativity, and artistic skills.

Location: At the Lowry or in School

Cost: £160/£300 per class (reduced rate available for schools located in Salford and in school prices vary, see costs and timings for more details)

Pupils taking part will be supported to:

  • Develop the ability to look closely at buildings, landscapes, textures, and details in their local environment and represent what they see through art.
  • Build an understanding of their local area, helping children connect personal experiences, community, and cultural features to their creative work.
  • Use drawing, painting, collage, or mixed media to interpret local spaces in personal and imaginative ways.
  • Experiment with materials, tools, colour, line, and composition to communicate ideas inspired by their surroundings.
  • Share ideas about their artwork, discussing local features, and explaining creative choices, supporting confidence, language, and critical thinking.
