Lowry chooses Xledger as its new finance system

Xledger, the cloud finance software provider, is delighted to announce that national arts organisation Lowry has chosen Xledger as its new finance system, supporting one of the UK’s most celebrated arts centres as it continues to grow its impact across the performing and visual arts.

Located at the heart of the regenerated Salford Quays, Greater Manchester, Lowry is a registered charity that welcomes audiences from across the country. Since opening in April 2000, it has welcomed more than 18.5 million visitors, bringing together theatre, performance, visual art, learning, and community engagement under one roof.

As an arts organisation with multiple venues, income streams, and reporting requirements, Lowry required a finance platform that could provide stronger visibility, greater automation, and a more connected approach to financial management. Xledger was selected for its ability to streamline core finance processes, improve reporting across funds, projects and strategic priorities, and provide budget holders with real-time access to the information they need.

Through Xledger’s true-cloud platform, Lowry will benefit from automated purchase-to-pay processes, OCR invoice capture, mobile approvals, automated bank reconciliation, integrated reporting, and multi-dimensional analysis. The system will also support fund accounting and project-level reporting, helping Lowry manage complex funding, venue, and event-related activity with greater accuracy and control.

Lowry’s Group Finance Director, Michelle Pendergast, shared her thoughts on the project “I’m excited to work with Xledger on this ambitious project, which represents an important investment in Lowry’s financial infrastructure. By integrating Xledger across our operations, we will be able to embed consistent, streamlined workflows, reduce manual processes and give colleagues timely access to better financial information. This more connected way of working will strengthen collaboration, support informed decision-making and enable our teams to focus on delivering Lowry’s impact for audiences, artists and communities.”

Lowry also delivers an extensive Learning & Engagement programme across local communities, alongside a dynamic artist development strand that supports creatives to experiment, make new work, and grow their practice. By modernising its finance system, Lowry will be better equipped to support operational efficiency behind the scenes while continuing to deliver exceptional creative experiences for audiences, artists, and communities.

“Lowry is an iconic arts organisation with a hugely important cultural and community role, and we are proud to support the next stage of its finance transformation,” said Robert Webb, Senior Business Development Manager at Xledger UK. “Arts and culture organisations need systems that can handle complexity without adding unnecessary admin. Xledger will give Lowry a modern, scalable finance platform that improves visibility, automates manual processes, and supports confident decision-making across the organisation.”
