This winter, Lowry is getting seriously unserious with Funny People, a major new contemporary exhibition celebrating the glorious overlap between visual art and comedy.

Bringing together more than 25 artists and comedians, Funny People showcases painting, sculpture, film, performance and installation work that ranges from brilliantly bizarre to laugh out loud ridiculous. Some of it might even make you think. Sorry about that.

From absurdity and surrealism to politics and personal confessions, the exhibition explores why humans laugh, what we're laughing at and whether we're all just coping as best we can.

Visitors can take on a special Taskmaster challenge devised by Alex Horne, experience a mischievous audio guide to the LS Lowry collection by Manchester comedian Edy Hurst, and enjoy special one-off events including a hilarious panel talk and a takeover evening by Manchester comedy collective Fight Club.

Whether you're drawn to contemporary art, stand-up comedy, or simply the pleasure of seeing seriousness gently punctured, Funny People offers plenty to contemplate and even more to laugh at.
